Say "Yes" to Public Speaking: Just Do It!

In the words of the great philosopher Nike: "Just do it!" Simple, yet profound. Nike used these words to sell you the gear for your next workout, but their wisdom extends far beyond that.

Yesterday, I met a young woman who was clearly apprehensive about public speaking. Her reluctance was palpable, and she had developed a pattern of avoiding these opportunities. Over time, this avoidance had built a mental barrier. On one side was comfort (the avoidance of speaking), and on the other was perceived danger. While public speaking isn’t truly dangerous, her mind convinced her it was.

Each time she declined to speak, she reinforced that barrier. She added another brick to the wall separating her from growth. The more she avoided speaking, the more formidable the barrier became. So, how do you break through such a wall? You guessed it: Just do it.

Embrace the discomfort and take the leap. You may not feel great initially, and that's perfectly okay. Each time you choose to speak, you chip away at that wall, making the next opportunity easier to grasp.

If you want to become a better public speaker, you need to take action. Each decision to speak or not speak either brings you closer to your goal or pushes you further away. Don’t let a mental barrier keep you from achieving your potential. You deserve to be seen, heard, and recognized for your expertise.

So, when the next opportunity arises, don’t hesitate. Say "yes" to public speaking. The pieces will fall into place as you commit, and your barrier will weaken. Remember, just do it!
